Enhance Your Wellbeing
We explore how the design of Breeze House brings together air and space to elevate outdoor living and enhance your wellbeing.
A Place of Healing
On short, chilly winter days it’s tempting to stay indoors but doing so means missing out on nature’s power to reduce stress, lift your mood and sharpen your focus. The crisp air and tranquil landscapes can offer a unique sense of calm and renewal.
That’s where Breeze House comes in enabling you to embrace fresh air and connect with nature, all while staying warm and comfortable, no matter the season. Garden buildings with fully open sides have a fascinating medical history.
Originally used for recreational purposes, such as taking tea, the early 20th century saw these structures being repurposed to provide access to fresh air and sunlight – once considered essential remedies for a “delicate constitution.”
In fact, rotating summerhouses were used to treat tuberculosis patients that would follow the path of the sun to maximise the healing effects. This synergy of air and light as a restorative power is captured beautifully in The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The main character, Mary, finds her health and spirits revived in the windswept Yorkshire countryside:
“But the big breaths of rough fresh air blown over the heather filled her lungs with something which was good for her whole thin body and whipped some red colour into her cheeks and brightened her dull eyes when she did not know anything about it.”
The healing powers of fresh air are still widely acknowledged today. A YouGov survey confirms that many people feel energised by windy days, highlighting the enduring wellness benefits of natural ventilation. A Breeze House offers the perfect blend of inside comfort and outside refreshment.
Open Sides with Endless Views
The true beauty of a Breeze House lies in its open-sided design. Not only does it allow natural airflow, but it also offers unobstructed views of your surroundings. This design taps into the Savanna Preference – a theory suggesting that humans are naturally drawn to open, expansive landscapes, much like those found in the savanna. If your garden offers stunning vistas, a Breeze House provides the ideal vantage point.
For an even greater connection to nature, you can raise your Breeze House to capture sweeping panoramic views. From this elevated space, you can experience nature’s wonders unfold—dramatic thunderstorms, ever-changing cloud formations, or the mesmerising flight of murmuration birds.
Form Meets Function
Beyond its functional aspects, the form of the Breeze House is also aesthetically pleasing. With its harmonious symmetry and gentle curves, it blends effortlessly into the landscape, reflecting the fractals found in nature – repeating patterns like spirals in shells or the flow of waves. This design not only pleases the eye but also creates a sense of balance and calm, making the Breeze House feel like it belongs in its natural setting.
This sense of symmetry fosters a peaceful environment, ideal for relaxation and connection with the natural world. Whether you are reflecting, meditating or simply enjoying a quiet moment, Breeze House provides a sanctuary that complements the landscape.
A Vision Realised
After a life-changing trip to Nigeria in the ’80s, Breeze House’s founder Andrew Peck was inspired by African rondavels. He returned to the UK with a vision – a circular, thatched garden retreat that would allow families to spend more time outdoors, protected from the British weather.
Starting in his garage with little more than a jigsaw, Andrew poured his heart into crafting the first prototype, using reclaimed hardwood containers for tables – a signature detail that remains in every Breeze House today.
Andrew’s handcrafted design eventually made its debut at the Hampton Court Flower Show and the rest is history. Over 30 years later, Breeze House remains family-owned, British-made and continues to reconnect people with nature across the country. From the gardens of royalty, footballers and actors to a rooftop in New York and a delivery to an Omani prince, Breeze Houses have become a symbol of outdoor living at its finest. Notably, Barbara Broccoli, the producer of James Bond, even gifted one to chef James Martin.
Benefits of Air and Space
A Breeze House is more than just a structure – it’s a space designed to enhance your wellbeing. By allowing fresh air to flow freely and creating a direct connection with nature, it offers a retreat that rejuvenates both mind and body. Whether you’re watching the play of sunlight across your garden in winter or listening to the rustle of leaves on a summer evening, a Breeze House frames these moments, inviting you to pause and appreciate the simple beauty of the world around you.
Nature Framed
Breeze House is a perfect blend of form and function, allowing you to experience the elements of air and space in a way that nurtures your wellbeing. Its thoughtful design transforms your garden into a personal retreat, where the beauty of nature and the benefits of fresh air combine for a truly restorative experience.
